Plants

Series Statement

These are perhaps the most romantic and sensual of my work. Georgia O’Keefe is referenced in the curvilinear lines and fleshy petals, and stained glass is alluded to in the luminous colors. Exploration of the concavities, dissection of form, and reconfiguration of the parts allow the viewer to experience these organic forms in a new way.

The plant paintings are a metaphor of the beauty of life's process. Every living thing has a lifespan and there is beauty to be found in each moment of the process from birth to death. Plants and especially flowers, amplify the cycle of life in a short period of time. I use plants that are fully alive and completely dried up as subjects. Each has its unique beauty and color palette.
