Under Water
Series Statement
In this series of paintings, I have created a fanciful interpretation of underwater environments. Water has always been an important theme throughout my life. Inspired following the death of my mother, my grief made me feel as though I was underwater. As a swimmer I have always loved and appreciated the power of water. There is a comfort that comes in the silence of being submerged. In these paintings I use my experiences and current environment to create interpretations of the kelp forests, coral reefs, and underwater gardens, creating a balance of realism and abstraction that is often found in my work.
